It’s a big event. There are two main ways Brazilians party at that time: “desfile de carros alegóricos” (which is basically a parade with big fancy cars, the people from the samba schools who perform in it prepare the entire year) and “bloco de carnaval” (where a crowd of people covered in glitter and dressed up as something they like go partying following an electric trio). The mask is the symbol of Carnaval, but not many people wear it.
